This remark from the company’s production «In Our Own Words» that had been kept in the repertory for several seasons in a row can well be applied to a new experiment of the director Iosif Raykhelgauz – THE STAR SICKNESS. This superordinary show is totally based on the actors’ improvisation. And this accounts for the fact that there is no playwright mentioned in credits: the entire cast performs his/her function.
The central part of the auditorium is converted into a restaurant. Actors are sitting at the tables and perform situations created prior to the show «in their own words». If you take care of the tickets well in advance, you may be lucky to grab a seat at the table, in the epicenter of the action (there are only 12 seats there!). And though waiters in this improvised restaurant are young actors, they will gladly take your order and bring anything you like from the real theatre restaurant.
The two groups are banqueting at the tables. And each of them is celebrating a star. Actors from one of the groups honour the «superstar» of the Russian musical theatre who has just retired. A company of militiamen at the neighboring table are partying on the occasion of another star on the epaulettes of their colleague (which means a higher rank!). Different pledges, different songs, different jokes and different conflicts. Yet these two unlike companies have certain points of coincidence.
